Ibiza’s permanent population is a world away from its summer reputation — international, settled, and with the same practical need for English-speaking professional services as anywhere else in Spain. Whether you’re buying property, sorting residency, need a reliable dentist, or want an accountant who understands the situation for foreign residents, the directory lists English-speaking professionals serving the island. Ibiza year-round is a different island to Ibiza in July. The permanent resident population is international, diverse, and largely uninterested in the summer tourism economy — and many long-term residents actively avoid the south of the island during peak season. What remains when the summer visitors leave is a quiet, genuinely beautiful island with a strong sense of community among those who have chosen to stay.
The year-round expat community is smaller than in Mallorca or the Costa del Sol, but it is established and well-served. English-speaking lawyers, accountants, doctors, and dentists operate across the island, particularly in and around Ibiza Town and Santa Eulalia.
One thing to be clear on: Ibiza is expensive. More expensive than most of mainland Spain and more expensive than Mallorca for most categories of housing and services. This is the price of living on one of the most sought-after islands in the Mediterranean.
The residency process for British nationals in Ibiza follows the standard Spanish procedure — the same NIE, empadronamiento, and TIE card process as the mainland and the other Balearic Islands. The local Foreigners’ Office on the island handles applications, and a gestor familiar with the Ibiza offices will navigate the process efficiently.
Long-term rental in Ibiza is a common challenge for new arrivals, as the rental market is heavily seasonal, with winter rates considerably lower than summer. If you are planning to move year-round, securing a rental at a winter rate before April is advisable. Contracts can be difficult to find during the summer peak.
Ibiza is the most expensive island in the Balearics and among the most expensive addresses in Spain. Property purchase prices and long-term rents are both premium, and the cost of goods and services on a small island with a heavily seasonal economy reflects that.
A one-bedroom rental in Ibiza Town or Santa Eulalia typically runs €1,200 to €2,000 per month in winter. Summer rates, where available at all, are significantly higher. Rural properties and those in less accessible parts of the island are more affordable, but factor in transport costs and the practicalities of island life.
Day-to-day costs — including food, utilities and services — are higher than the mainland but not dramatically so outside of peak season. The premium is primarily in housing.
